Thematic Areas
OUR AREAS OF INTEREST
ADVANCING WOMEN’S RIGHTS
Under this thematic area, the organization works towards creating a society where the rights of
women are respected and upheld.
RE-ENTRY AND REHABILITATION
The living conditions in jails and prison cells across the country are in a terrible state. The
treatment of prisoners and/ or of jailed people being held in the prisons is even worse
POLICY ADVOCACY
Nadira Trust engages local, national, regional and global state and non-state actors in
advocating for Human Rights policies, laws and institutional reforms
ANTI-TERRORISM SENSITIZATION
Youth focused terror awareness and sensitization on security issues and terrorism. The problem of radicalization in Somalia is well documented.
GIRL’S EDUCATION
At Nadira Trust, we believe that education is the cornerstone of empowerment. In honor of Nadira’s legacy, we are dedicated to ensuring that girls in Somalia have access to quality education.
SOCIAL PROTECTION FOR CHILDREN
Like most countries, Somali has the problem of at-risk children. These are children living on or off the streets.
Who We Are
OUR STORY
Nadira Trust was founded by Naima Ahmed Ibrahim (also known as Naima Abwaan Qorane). In January 2018, Naima was arrested in Hargeisa on trumped up politically motivated and fabricated charges. She was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months and was taken to Gabiley Prison. She was not allowed to see her relatives during the first 2 months in prison and was, after that, only allowed a 10-minute weekly visit with family. She stayed in prison for 3 months and 12 days before the President of Somaliland, Hon. Muse Bihi, pardoned her.
